Gil is the currency used in Final Fantasy XIV, earned through defeating enemies and selling equipment and items for profit. Additionally, it can be used to buy food that grants a 3% EXP increase when purchased with Gil.
Gil is awarded for quests, guildleves, dungeons and duty roulettes; players may also earn it from their retainers.

Enemies will drop a small amount of ffxiv gil after battle, and this amount increases depending on your level. Running away from battle also causes this amount to diminish further; players who flee may incur penalties in terms of deducted Gil. Players can gain additional Gil by opening treasure chests or coffers, selling equipment or items, or by getting lucky and getting Materia bonus items as bonuses - each method yielding its own source of Gil!
Main scenario quests provide significant amounts of gil, as do side quests and leve quests. Furthermore, players can trade between each other through market boards or Moogle delivery - or purchase it through professional services such as MMOGAH without getting banned in game. While buying Gil directly is illegal in ffxiv quick gil itself, these safe services won't cause you any legal hassles!
